Faudziah Ahmad, Fauziah Baharom and Moath Husni

This paper aims to discuss issues on the current development and measurement practices in Jordanian small software firms based on pilot study analysis and finding results. It is conducted because most developers do not pay attention for these practices and there is a lack of applying and performing these practices during the development process for building web applications in small software firms. Furthermore, this pilot study conducted to firstly, to investigate the current development and measurement practices. Secondly, examine the need of new development method for building web application in small software firms. Accordingly, pilot survey was conducted in Jordanian small software firms. Descriptive statistics analysis was used to rank the development and measurements according to their importance and degree of acceptance. Furthermore, hierarchal clustering used for group the development practices into several groups. The actual findings of this survey will be used for building new methodology for developing web applications in small software firms taking to account how to integrate the suitable measurement program to the whole development process and also will provide useful information to those who are doing research in the same area.

Keywords: Empirical study, hierarchal clustering, measurement, small software firms, Web application development.
