Time Contingency Assessment in Construction Projects in Egypt using Artificial Neural Networks Model
Time schedule is an essential tool for construction project
management. For instance, it can materially help to identify the
expected financial requirements. It is also an important tool for
the time control process. Construction project time schedule is
greatly affected by many uncertain but predictable factors.
Hence, a certain percentage of time contingency should be
added to the scheduled time to arrive at more reliable time
schedule. In this research, the most important factors affecting
time contingency in construction projects were identified based
on a comprehensive survey among a collected sample of the
Egyptian construction experts. In addition, a neural networks
model was developed in order to help project planner to have a
more reliable prediction for the amount of time contingency that
should be added to the scheduled completion time. This paper
explains the data collection process, lists the main factors
affecting time contingency and discusses the model
development methodology.
