Orientation tracking by Inertial Sensing-A Review

Anamika Gahlot and Deepika Gahlot

This paper is a review of the research done in the use of inertial sensors for tracking the orientation of subjects. It provides an overview of the sensors involved (gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer) and their limitations. Methods for sensor fusion involving Kalman and complementary filters have been reviewed. Several techniques for specifying orientation -Euler angles and quaternions are also discussed.

Keywords: gyroscope, Kalman, orientation, quaternion, tracking
